New paddlers are welcome to join Kamloops Dragon Boat Club at any time of the year, though the earlier in the season the better.
We offer two FREE practices to try out this great sport and see if it is for you. On your third practice we ask that you pay your membership fees. Drop by and see what it is all about.
We have two programs to choose from: Regular Program and the Recreational Program.
Regular Program:
The regular program started April 8th, 2013.
The regular program runs 3 days a week: Mon, Wed, Sat.
This program is open to new to advanced paddlers. The program is progressive (as to volume and intensity) and different aspects of the stroke are introduced each week. The program is designed to ready paddlers for racing in dragon boat festivals. To achieve maximum benefit from this program, members should involve themselves in other exercise activities (ie: running, biking, swimming, weight training) at least 2-3 times per week in addition to the weekly paddling practices. It is expected that those who register for this program can attend a minimum 2 practices per week.
Check the Practice Schedule page for practice times.
Check the Registration page for membership fee costs for the Regular program.
Recreational Program:
First 2013 practice: May 15th 5:15 PM
The recreational program runs one day a week.
This program is open to new to advanced paddlers as well. The program will progress over the season but at a slower pace than the regular program as it only runs one day a week. If you are a new paddler, want to enjoy the Thompson Rivers by way of a dragon boat and want to work on your fitness ability, this program would be a good starting place. The recreational program is a great building block to get you ready to join the regular program intensity.
Check the Practice Schedule page for practice times.
Check the Registration page for membership fee costs for the Recreational program.
